Portrait of a young British boy in a blouse possibly from around the 1780's to 1790's. The piece is in the style of John Hoppner known for Portrait paintings. The painting is framed in a gold frame.

Artist Biography

John Hopppner was an English portrait painter who was influenced by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Hoppner's first exhibition was at the Royal Academy in 1780. He was very interested in landscape painting by turned to portrait painting because of the demand for it. During the peak of his success, he painted the most fashionable and wealthy sitters including the Prince of Wales, Sir Walter Scott, Duke of Wellington, Henry Bartle Frere and Sir George Beaumont. In 1803 he published A Series of Portraits of Ladies engraved after his painting by Charles Wilkin. Later in 1805 a volume of the translation of Eastern tales into English verse.
