Artist Biography

Barbara Maples lived from 1912-1999. Born in Temple, Texas, modernist painter Barbara Maples settled in Dallas. A graduate of Baylor University, she was a student of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She earned a M.A. degree from Columbia University and was a member of the Dallas Print and Drawing Society. Barbara Maples taught art in the Dallas Public Schools, the art school of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and Southern Methodist University where she headed the art education program (1965-1978).
