Artist Biography

R. Michael Reed 3D paintings and sculptural creations of multi-level geometric patterns on Plexiglass bring Op art to new Post-Post Modernism heights. While seemingly formal and rigid, his ability to play with color, shadow, and movement asks the viewer to rethink not only how they see things, but how the world is really constructed. After receiving his BA in painting and drawing in 1966 from The University of North Texas, and attending graduate school at the University of Dallas MFA program, Reed entered into the business world before returning to his art practices in 2009 with a bold and daring body of work. His work can be found in the University of North Texas Permanent Collection, and he has participated in exhibitions at The Oklahoma Museum of Fine Art, OK, Dallas Museum of Fine Art, as well as the Cook County Museum in Gainesville, TX. Currently, Reed both lives and practices here in Houston.
