Engraving of shells from the book "Delights for the Eyes and the Spirit, or a General Collection of the Different Species of Shells That the Sea Contains," first published in 1764 - 1773. The artist of the works are George Wolfgang Knorr, the engraver is Andreas Hoffer. Engraving framed in a red wooden frame with an off white matte. Each print is in great condition for being over 200 years old. Though the framed matte has some water damage there is no damage to the print itself.
George Wolfgang Knorr, born in 1705 died in 1761, was a German paleontologist as well as a painter, draftsman, engraver, collector & art dealer. He began engraving at the age of 18, working with Martin Tyroff on illustrations for the Physica Sacra. Later, Knorr went on to publish several scientific works from Nuremberg, all distinguished for their beautiful hand colored prints.
