Large abstract by American artist Joan Giordano. "Abstract Composition," mixed media on canvas, signed to verso of canvas. Explosive abstract painting in purples, greens, pinks and blues. In excellent condition no apparent repairs or losses. Can be gallery framed if desired.

Artist Biography

Joan Giordano lives and works in Manhattan and in Upstate New York. Awarded a graduate fellowship to Hunter College and a BA from Wagner College, NY, she holds an MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, where she studied with George McNeil. Inspired there by Irwin Hollander from the Tamerind School she experimented with large scale lithographs and continued at the Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in Manhattan,. She proceeded to free the oversize torsos from the picture plane to create sculptural shapes. During a fellowship to Japan, Giordano collaborated with a national treasure at the Fujimori Factory to develop unusual life size artworks. In 1979 she co-founded the art school ART Lab at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island, NY which continues to thrive. She is represented by June Kelly Gallery in NYC.
