Artist Biography

The following is from the artist: I started drawing seriously at the age of 14 after attending a summer program at Indian Hill, in Stockbridge, MA. After attending other programs at Boston University (Tanglewood) and Carnegie Mellon, I graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University and a Master's Degree from Pratt Institute, where I studied with George McNeil, a great influence. I worked in Houston in the 80's and was represented there by Hadler /Rodriguez, and Warren Hadler, who died, was a dealer as well as mentor. There, most of my work was on large sheets of paper with three images interacting on a stage. Those successful years of productivity and sales ended with a move to Connecticut. The work continued to grow, and I eventually switched to oil paint on large canvasses - also using organic abstract imagery. A move to the Florida Keys in the 90's was fruitful and work influenced by the tropical vegetation continued in oil on paper and directly on mylar and plywood. In a series of small tryptichs on canvas, I explored giving my forms life by combining them with circus imagery. That led to more interest in the figure in parts and to the work I am currently doing which approaches each body part separately as a portrait but sometimes with several in one composition. I recently rented a space in Miami to show work and am hoping to spend more time there this year.
