Artist Biography

"Born in Aleppo, Syria. He was a watercolor painter, short story writer and lecturer of the arts in the faculty of fine arts. Though his talent was evident as a child, Sabouni’s parents discouraged him from pursuing art as a career. So he completed studies in Agricultural engineering at Aleppo University and graduated in 1972, but kept on with his painting and teaching art in several local schools. After serving in the military four years in the military in 1976 he began a 12-year career as genera manager of a poultry business in the provincial market town of Ma'arse al Na'man. He painted little during this period but had many opportunities to travel, and on one of these occasions found himself in Paris. After spotting his muse on the Parisian streets, he abandoned the poultry business and headed back to Aleppo to take up painting full time. He had his first solo exhibition in 1987 at the Pullman Stahba Hotel in Aleppo. Since then, he has exhibited in Paris, Genewa, Beirut, and Dubai. He specializes in painting water in its many forms and environments."
